Electrode configuration of monitor crystals

Alloy monitor crystals have different electrode configurations from gold or silver monitor crystals.
The plated electrode is at the back surface, where deposition occurs when put to use by a client. (Figure at right)

Because the client’s deposition materials adhere to the flat side, through the principle of similitude, the more deposition occurs the better the balance between the front and back becomes, causing the crystal’s oscillation to stabilize and giving it longer life.

The principle of similitude means left/right or front/back symmetry.
